Handywomen know how to get things done around the house themselves!

By Lizz Cassidy

I’m tired of waiting for my significant other to fix things around the house - because he never gets things done! If it’s not one excuse, it’s another. His excuses can range from a big golf tournament, to having to re-watch a taped copy of a football game with his buddies. If you want to get something done around the house, you have to do it yourself.

Unfortunately, I’m not allowed to touch his tools. Not that I would want to touch his slimy, grease-stained tools anyways. His toolkit likely was the source of last year’s E-coli outbreak, which is why I’ve insisted that it be quarantined in the basement.

So I decided to get my very own toolset… Introducing the Brico 31-piece do-it-yourself kit! Right off the bat, the thing I loved the most about this kit was that it comes with its very own soft side nylon carrying case. I can stow the entire kit in the closet, in a shelf, or just slide it under the bed for the next time I might need it.

The kit is extremely handy because it comes with everything you might need to handle small home repair tasks around the house, including a hex screwdriver with bits, a hammer with claw, long-nosed pliers, an adjustable wrench, a 12 ” tape measure, a torpedo level, a putty knife, and a large snap blade knife with replacement blades. It even comes with a set of heavy-duty household scissors and a box of assorted fasteners.

For instance, last week, I was able to adorn the living room wall with my watercolour paintings. I couldn’t have done this without my Brico kit. Using the measuring tape, I was able to roughly sketch out where each of the paintings would go. After whipping out some handy-dandy nails from the fastener box, I was able to use the level and hammer to set the frame precisely into place.

If you’re looking for a gift for a new condo-owner, or your daughter is moving away from home for the first time, this is the perfect gift for them. The entire kit is portable, and lightweight. You can literally carry it like a purse. Not to mention the fact that it’s extremely affordable. I paid less than $50 for my kit, and both my significant other and I are glad that I did!
